The Jolly Tar name was inspired by the famous Jolly Tar Rye whiskey produced by Altschul Distilling Co. founded in 1862 in Springfield, O. The beer is dark brown with a subdued hop character and a mildly assertive finish. The aroma is malty with lots of bakers chocolate and mild raisin-like notes. The aroma flows into the flavor of the beer with chocolate, raisin and a fig like character. This is a medium bodied beer that finishes somewhat dry.
